We are continuing our southern Illinois adventure and we are at the Pierre Menard home it was built around 1802 and is an example of French colonial architecture. Menard was a French man who was a fur trader and politician. he was the Lieutenant Colonel of the militia, judge of the county court at Kaskaskia, President of the Illinois Territorial Council and was the state's first Lieutenant Governor, serving from 1818 to 1822 with the first governor, Shadrach Bond. I go to historical sites and I learn what that site can teach us and normally rely heavily on brochures and the historical markers but occasionally I do come across a guide that has so much more knowledge than what I can learn off of a brochure and that is what has happened today. The Tour guides name is Michell Baker and she and I were basically the only two people there and she gave me a full tour. She was so full of knowledge and so friendly and agreed to let me show you guys the tour that she gave me. So Instead of chopping my footage up and me giving you the information I'm letting her do it. So please excuse some of the video footage some of it’s a bit shaky. #architecture #southernillinois #history #historicalsites I love history and I get out and go find it every week! I have found some amazing history just by getting out and exploring! I try to pronounce everything properly. I really do try, so please forgive me if I don't pronounce something properly. :) Be Nice!
