Woman Set Ablaze by In-Laws Over Dowry in Ganjam

A woman has allegedly been set ablaze by her mother-in-law and brother-in-law over dowry demands. The shocking incident occurred in Kanhheipur village of Khalikote in Ganjam district. The woman, identified as Arati, has been admitted to the hospital with severe burns. Akash Parida of Kanhheipur village married Arati in a love marriage two years ago. Arati's father alleges that she was being tortured for dowry at various times. Last night, there was an argument between the mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. This morning, the brother-in-law and mother-in-law allegedly poured petrol on Arati and tried to kill her by setting her on fire. She has suffered 40 percent burns and has been shifted to MKCG Medical College in Brahmapur by doctors. Police have reached the medical college and are investigating the matter.
