The Lost Coast - Usal Road Mendocino California 2013 We went on a photo safari over the Usal road to Usal Beach. A sign at the beginning of Usal road reads Road not maintained during winter months. Use at your own risk. This is the southern boundary of California's Lost Coast, an area so steep and rugged that road building is problematical, but as a result it is one of the less spoiled parts of California. It has been heavily logged but parts are now protected and the difficult access may help with its healing. This makes a great day trip from the Fort Bragg area for tourists and locals alike and a chance to see some remote country. A lot of work has been done on the road since my last trip so it is an easy ride for the Geo Tracker. Beware the winter months though unless you are an experienced 4 wheeler with a back up vehicle.
