Pratt Street was once called Hartford's Fifth Avenue because of the many specialty stores that lines this short block. In this video I talk about the history of the street, from its early days as a residential block, through its period of commercial development. I talk about such landmarks as Society for Savings, the now lost Hartford Female Seminary, the reconstructed Spencer House and the many commercial buildings that line the street, built between the 1880s and 1920s. I also mention the development projects that have transformed the street over the years, particularly in the late 1980s. #hartford #hartfordct #prattstreet Subscribe to the channel: / @historywithdansterner263 Check out my website: historicbuildingsct.com Buy me a coffee: https://ko-fi.com/danielsterner My Books (These are links to Amazon and as an Amazon Associate I earn from qualifying purchases): A Guide to Historic Hartford, Connecticut: https://amzn.to/4bNbiAR Vanished Downtown Hartford: https://amzn.to/3IhK7Ao Some of the images used in this video are from the collections of the Connecticut Museum of Culture and History: Corner of Main Street and Pratt Street, Hartford, October 20, 1896 Accession number 1959.81.71 https://emuseum.chs.org/emuseum/objec...
