Globally, the field of healthcare and medicine sees the advent of new drugs and breakthrough technologies almost every day. Yet, in North Korea, the emphasis remains on the mere "devotion" of its healthcare workers. The Devotion Movement, initiated in the 1960s, was sparked by a moving story of medical personnel and students from Hamhung University of Medicine who performed a blood transfusion and a skin graft for a young worker who had suffered third-degree burns over his entire body. This sense of devotion remains a principal virtue for medical staff in North Korea, so much so that Hamhung Medical College was renamed "Devotion University" to honor this commitment. However, given the reality of healthcare in North Korea, it is difficult to determine whether procedures like biopsies, which are needed for skin grafts, are being executed properly. In this video, we take a closer look at the reason behind North Korea's recent re-emphasis on the Devotion Movement and the reality of healthcare in the North. #NorthKorea #NorthKoreanHealthcare #MedicineInNorthKorea #TraditionalKoreanMedicine #KoryoMedicine #DevotionMovement #NorthKoreanDoctors #SkinGraft #Biopsy #BloodBank #PyongyangGeneralHospital #OkryuChildrensHospital #InterKoreanCooperation
