Rather than running out chasing sales on Black Friday, I wanted…to play a lot of Knockout Tour in Mario Kart World. Here is a highlight reel, of sorts, consisting of four Knockout Tours and a non-Knockout Tour match to fill up the remaining time. It was a bit tricky to figure out which ones to keep, as I didn’t want two of the same rally to turn up in the same video, but there are only eight rallies in all. I hope they add in more later. Matches in this video were of version 1.3.0. 00:00 - Rally #1 Heart Rally: Shy Guy Bazaar, Airship Fortress, Dry Bones Burnout, Mario Circuit, Moo Moo Meadows, Peach Stadium Character: Sidestepper The Item Boxes after the first bridge…that Mario player did it on purpose, didn’t he? Waiting for someone to try and take it, then activating the Mushroom, timed in an attempt to deny it. It’s that sort of thing I see here and there, but nobody seems to believe it happens. That Jason, meanwhile, dominated this Knockout Tour, placing 1st overall and through 4 of the 5 checkpoints. 09:51 - Rally #2 Ice Rally: Sky-High Sundae, Starview Peak, Dandelion Depths, Cheep Cheep Falls, Peach Stadium, Crown City (Variant 1) Character: Pokey The Ice Rally is something I used to rarely be able to reach the end of, but as you can see, it’s been turning up more lately. Not really sure why. The last checkpoint, the Crown City one, is absolutely brutal for me for ending on a straight stretch of road, meaning it’s easy to get overtaken but hard to overtake, at least for me. Maybe the key here is to stay on the far right and out of people’s sight, grabbing the Dash Food along the way. 18:50 - Rally #3 Acorn Rally: Toad’s Factory, Wario Stadium, Choco Mountain, Peach Stadium, Cheep Cheep Falls, DK Pass Character: Peach (Touring) i majorly messed up with the Choco Mountain checkpoint, literally missing the gate—or maybe not, as I crashed into its left pole. I haven’t had that happen to me before. I was still able to make it through though. Might even be advantageous, as the following stretch completely lacks Item Boxes for its entire latter half, mqking it important to get something that can take you a good distance—like a Golden Mushroom. 27:22 - Rally #4 Cherry Rally: Peach Beach, Dino Dino Jungle, Koopa Troopa Beach, DK Spaceport, Whistlestop Summit, Desert Hills Character: Bowser Jr. (Biker Jr.) Bowser Jr. is going to get a bump in popularity with The Mario Galaxy Movie…meanwhile, his dad is also participating in this Knockout Tour, and both make it all the way to the end. I didn’t know you could cut the far inside of that last turn on Desert Hills without a Mushroom. That might explain why I sometimes fall behind there. I always thought that people were using items to cut through the grass. Also, what’s with the people in low-ranking positions shooting projectiles behind them? I got hit twice between DK Spaceport and Whistlestop Summit by someone falling behind when I was even further behind. 36:07 - Battle #1 Coin Runners Chain Chomp Desert Character: Piranha Plant I noticed that by now, Battle Mode seems to be roughly two-thirds people who barely play it or just recently started playing, with BRs in the 4000s or lower, and people who play it a lot, with BRs of 8000 or higher, and not much in between like me. As a result, I was able to get away with just keeping a low profile here and slowly collecting Coins as I saw them. Helps that in Chain Chomp Desert, the sand is constantly moving towards the middle if you know how to aim for them. You can also see that I will turn down Coins if I’m out of items; it’s more important for me to find a way to defend myself, then pick up Coins later.
