(11 Jan 2001) Russian/Nat XFA Russian Foreign Minister Igor Ivanov met with the Secretary General of the Organisation for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Jan Kubis, on Thursday to discuss bilateral relations. During the talks, Ivanov put forward proposals for enhancing the effectiveness of the O-S-C-E. Speaking to reporters after the talks, Kubis expressed the O-S-C-E's interest in getting the fullest possible information about the impact of the use of depleted uranium ammunition. Several European countries fear the use of such ammunition by NATO forces in Yugoslavia led to cancer cases among their military personnel. Asked to comment on Tuesday's abduction in Chechnya of American humanitarian worker, Kenny Gluck, Kubis said this was a lesson for all, but did not elaborate further and did not specify whether he had discussed the matter with Ivanov.
