Nuclear technology has become essential to modern life. It is used in healthcare, industrial processes, energy production and national security. However, this technology generates waste materials that remain toxic for many generations. Dr. Sarah Weihmann is an expert in nuclear waste disposal, and she provides a fascinating account of current and future initiatives to store and isolate dangerous nuclear materials. Sarah Weihmann is a PostDoc researcher in geoscience at RWTH Aachen, passionate about investigating the role of the subsurface in the ongoing energy transition and teaching the next generation of energy experts. Trained as a petroleum geologist, experienced in the nuclear repository industry and excited about renewable energies, you will find her tying nearly everything back to the importance of rocks and reservoirs. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
