Nelspoort – A Small Community in the Karoo on the old Defunct N1! Ep 177

On the first leg of our second trip to the Eastern Cape, we came across some more stations along the N1 just waiting for some help which sadly and most probably will never arrive. I had never heard of Nelspoort until I started planning this trip. This small town lies on the old defunct N1 in the Central Karoo. When the new N1 was built, the road was diverted away from Nelspoort which I think was the deathblow for this community. I was looking for the old Tuberculosis Sanatorium, but unfortunately it no longer exists and we were unable to find any remnants of such a building. What we did find, were beautiful old buildings which used to be the old Garlick Hospital, which had unfortunately been destroyed by vandals. Then we went to Three Sisters, which we thought was another small town and, to our surprise, we found out that it only was a filling station on the N1, another old station and the three hills known as the Three Sisters.
