Komura, who is on currently a two-day visit to Pakistan, made the offer during Saturday's talks with Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani in the capital, Islamabad, said a government statement. Later, he also met with his Pakistani counterpart Shah Mehmood Qureshi, who told reporters that Pakistan's government was "very, very committed to counter-terrorism". "We feel that extremists and a terrorist minority, a small pocket in close to the Pak-Afghan boarder, has been engaging in activities, which has disturbed peace and tranquility of not just Pakistan but are threatening other areas as well," said Qureshi, during a joint news conference with Komura. "The government is very, very committed to counter-terrorism, there will be no compromise with terrorists. But we will engage the peace loving tribal people," he continued. Komura on his part said that Japan would help Pakistan in its efforts in two main ways, by helping to "facilitate consideration of democracy in Pakistan " and to aid stable economic growth in the country. Pakistan has been a key ally of Washington and it has deployed thousands of troops near Afghanistan to fight al-Qaida, Taliban and local militants.
