SPO will post "Navidad Nuestra" on this channel next Friday, December 17, 2021. ----------------------------- Programme notes from Maestro Butler: "I first encountered the music of Ariel Ramírez from a recording of 'Misa Criolla' and 'Navidad Nuestra', starring José Carreras (of Three Tenor fame). I thought the Navidad Nuestra would be a great work for the TCS to tackle. In December of 1995 tackle it we did - we followed every note on the page and delivered what must have been a solid but fairly sterile performance. Since then I have been exposed to two great musical forces; the singing of Mercedes Sosa, and my friend Rodrigo Chavez and Cassava. They opened my eyes to the wonderful world of latin music with all its subtle rhythms and haunting melodies - a tradition of music where what is on the page is far less important than what the music evokes in your heart. We as musicians are so very lucky to fully immerse ourselves in this deep tradition. We are delighted to share the music of Ariel Ramírez with our SPO friends.
