Dr. Cooper is an acute care surgeon, trauma surgeon and surgical intensivist at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, where she serves as director for the Center for Surgery and Public Health and director and founder of the Center for Geriatric Surgery. She also serves as chair of the Executive Advisory Council for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at the Brigham, leading system wide initiatives to improve equitable care for patients and employees and health outcomes in neighboring underserved communities. Dr. Cooper is an associate professor of surgery at Harvard Medical School.Dr. Cooper is an internationally recognized surgical health services researcher, with a focus on the intersection of surgery, geriatrics and palliative care. She has authored over 150 peer-reviewed manuscripts, mentored over 25 individuals and is a leader in several national academic societies. Dr. Cooper is also a frequently invited presenter at national societies and academic institutions, speaking on topics related to geriatric surgery, surgical palliative care, and equity in surgery and surgical care. Dr. Cooper completed her undergraduate studies at Northwestern University and her graduate and medical degree at Mt. Sinai School of Medicine. She completed her general surgery internship, residency and surgical critical care fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. She completed a trauma surgery fellowship at Harbor view Medical Center at the University of Washington. She also completed a palliative medicine fellowship at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. Dr. Narayan is the Division Chief of Acute Care Surgery and Chief of Trauma at Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School (New Brunswick, NJ). Prior to this, he served as an Attending Surgeon at Weill Cornell Medical Center serving in the Division of Trauma, Burns, Critical and Acute Care Surgery. He was previously Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center (Dallas, TX), where he also served as Chief of Acute Care Surgery, Chief of the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Associate Program Director for the General Surgery Residency Program.
