First things first - this group is NOT Japanese. Pictured here are Nico Witkamp (lead guitar), Peter van Meel (side guitar), Karry Mulder (bass guitar), Eddy Geurtsen (organ), and Tonny Mulder (drums). They began playing together in Utrecht in The Netherlands and quickly adapted the surf guitar sound made popular by The Ventures and Dick Dale. By the mid-1960s, their group Dutch Surf Beat (aka The Jets) were popular enough that they were teamed with Teresa Brewer when she covered the James Bond hit "Goldfinger" in 1965. Way over in Japan, surf music and Brewer's single were big hits on the charts. Philips Records asked the group for an album and they quickly recorded a full side on covers like "Help", "California Girls", and "(I Can't Get No) Satisfaction". As 1965 was drawing to a close, the group pivoted and recorded a full side of holiday music. Released in time for Christmas of that year, the album was given the title "Santa Claus à Go Go" and since they were known for playing on "Goldfinger", their new name was given to them. The group continued to release albums in Japan - in 1966, they recorded a full side of James Bond themes and took side two of "Santa Claus à Go Go" and released "Do The Monkey With Bond" with Sean Connery as Bond on the cover. Another album was released in 1972 called "Caravan / Explosive Sounds By Electric Guitar" chock full on rock instrumentals. If anyone has any more info on this group, please leave a comment below.
