Lillian M. White (birthname Lily May Christian) was born just outside of Troy, in Pike County, Alabama on April 13, 1934, to the late James & Iona Wilson Christian. She grew up in a large family of 11 children. Lilllian attended Needmore Elementary and completed her education at Pike County Training School on May 27th, 1955. In 1977 Lillian would be blessed to meet Julius and Wanda Rogers, the Pastor and 1st Lady of House of Refuge C.O.G.I.C (then located at 2201 W. Rodeo Road). The story goes that Lillian got "saved" in Julius and Wanda's living room. A story she often repeated when reminiscing about her relationship with Christ and the Rogers. Lillian would eventually join House of Refuge and become a prominent member for nearly 50 years. She would also meet her second husband, Deacon Thomas White, there. On July 21, 1986, Lillian and Thomas were joined in holy matrimony by Elder Julius Rogers. They enjoyed a wonderful marriage until Thomas' passing on January 13, 1994. Lillian served in many capacities at House of Refuge including Trustee Board Member, Choir President, Sunday School Teacher for the Little Lambs, Anniversary Committee President, and Resident Chef of the Fellowship Hall. In fact, the Fellowship is now named and dedicated to Mother Lillian White. Lillian was a prolific cook. People would come from other chruches to buy dinners and desserts she prepared. Cooking was her love language and her ministry.
