మాఘ పౌర్ణమి కథ||Magha Pournami Story in Telugu||Magha puranam katha#maghapurnima #maghapuranam Magha Purnima (the full moon day of the Magha month) is considered one of the most auspicious days in the Hindu calendar. It marks the conclusion of the holy Magha month and is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and the Moon God. While there are several legends associated with this day, the most popular Vrat Katha (fasting story) recounts the power of a mother's devotion. The Story of Dhaneshwar and Devidas Long ago, in the city of Kantika, there lived a poor Brahmin named Dhaneshwar. Though he was pious, he and his wife were deeply unhappy because they were childless. They often faced ridicule from their neighbors, who considered their childlessness a bad omen and refused to give them alms. Distressed, Dhaneshwar met a mystical Yogi who advised him that their destiny could be changed through devotion. The Yogi instructed the couple to worship Goddess Kali and Lord Vishnu with complete faith. Following his advice, they prayed for 16 consecutive days. Pleased by their devotion, the Goddess appeared and granted them a boon: they would have a son. However, there was a condition—the boy would have a short life and was destined to die at the age of sixteen. The couple was torn between joy and sorrow but accepted the boon. To protect the child, the Goddess and the Yogi advised them to observe the Magha Purnima Vrat (fasting on the full moon of Magha) and light earthen lamps for 32 consecutive full moons. The couple vowed to do so rigorously to accumulate spiritual merit for their son, whom they named Devidas. The Twist of Fate Years passed, and Devidas grew into a fine young man. As his sixteenth birthday approached, his parents, unable to bear the sight of his predetermined death, sent him away to the holy city of Kashi (Varanasi) with his maternal uncle to perform religious studies. On the fateful night of his sixteenth year, Devidas and his uncle were resting in a garden. That very night, the God of Death, Yama, arrived to take Devidas's soul as destiny had written. However, the accumulated merit of his parents' Magha Purnima fasting acted as a divine shield. Yama could not touch the boy. The power of the Vrat defeated the inevitable death, and Devidas was granted a long life. He returned home to his overjoyed parents, and since then, the Magha Purnima Vrat has been observed by devotees to ward off dangers and ensure the well-being of their children Other Legends and Significance Vishnu in the River Waters: It is believed that on this specific day, Lord Vishnu resides in the waters of the river Ganga. This is why the Magha Snan (holy bath) is considered so powerful; bathing in any river on this day is said to wash away sins. King Harishchandra: In some traditions, the story of King Harishchandra—who sacrificed his kingdom, wife, and son for the sake of truth—is recounted on this day to emphasize the virtue of righteousness. Buddhism: For Buddhists, this day is significant as it is believed to be the day Gautama Buddha announced his impending death (Parinirvana). #maghapurnima #maghapuranam #vishnu #shiv #maghapournami
