Juta is one of Georgia's highest settlements, second only to Ushguli in Svaneti - though this ranking is still debated. Both communities sit at nearly the same elevation of 2,200 meters above sea level, and the question of which truly deserves the title of highest settlement remains unresolved. Nestled in the Sno Valley at the confluence of the Jutistkali and Chaukhistskali rivers, Juta is a small village that, according to the 2014 census, was home to just 26 residents. The village is easily accessible via the Georgian Military Road. From Stepantsminda (Mkinvartsveri), travel 20 kilometers and turn left. After passing through Sno - the birthplace of Georgian Patriarch Ilia II - the road climbs directly to Juta. You can't miss it; there's only one road. The small houses with red-tiled roofs, surrounded by majestic mountains, immediately capture visitors' attention, enchanting them at first sight. The landscape is particularly spectacular in autumn when nature transforms into a canvas of vibrant colors. This small mountain village has become well-known among Georgia's visitors, attracting tourists not only for its scenic beauty but also as the starting point for climbing the Chaukhi massif. One of the region's most popular hiking trails begins here. Along the route to the Chaukhi massif, there are two camping sites: Zeta and the creatively named "5th Season." The latter offers rooms with panoramic windows providing stunning views of the mountains and Chaukhi. Both camps welcome tent camping (10 lari per tent, with rental tents available for 20 lari). The area also features a trail leading to the passes of Arkhoti. Beyond adventure seekers, you'll find people simply enjoying nature, with pitched tents, smoking campfires, and picnic tables scattered throughout the area. This remarkably beautiful location stands distinct from neighboring Stepantsminda and Gudauri. The opportunity to walk through the surroundings and immerse yourself in the alpine nature makes Juta worth visiting at least once.
