The pool of Democrats running for president in 2020 is quickly broadening. Since the State of the Union address on Feb. 6, 6 new candidates have thrown their hat into the ring. With 15 candidates who have now announced their intent to run, and many more waiting in the wings, democratic voters will likely need a metaphorical magnifying glass and a very real spreadsheet to differentiate and track the candidates’ messages and platforms. Beto O’Rourke is the latest to announce his candidacy, still 11 months out from the Iowa Caucus, which is set for Feb. 3, 2020. In those 11 months, hundreds (if not thousands) of hours of reporting, analysis and TV punditry will attempt to dissect each candidates’ campaign with an attempt to answer one question: who is best equipped to take on President Trump and win? Let’s take a brief look at how some Democrats’ messages compare to the President’s.
