It’s an age-old adage to laud the importance of getting out of one’s comfort zone. In his talk, highschool freshman Clement Chan talks about how he was forced out of his comfort zone — and straight into a military training camp. Despite his initial resistance to the stringent discipline there, it ultimately ended up being a life-changing and inspiring experience, transforming his habits, mindset, and personality. Not long ago, Clement was a delinquent for whom a perpetual state of messiness and lack of discipline was habitual. He found himself doomed; there seemed to be no way that could help him fix it. It reached a breaking point where his parents forced him to be “re-educated” at a military training camp with stringent orders. Despite his resistance to the camp, it ultimately ended up being a life-changing and inspiring experience. This encounter not only allowed Clement to discover his true talents outside of his locked-up room — it also transformed his habits, mindset, and personality. His story is relatable yet inspirational, with a lesson that each and every one of us can apply to our own lives.
