Filmed on the night of October 29-30, 2025 in Örbyhus, Uppsala County. Transitio has purchased 28 new railcars for the Krösatågen (operating in Småland), which are manufactured by Construcciones y Auxiliar de Ferrocarriles (CAF) in Spain. 20 of the trains are electric railcars, known in Sweden as ER3. The remaining 8 trains will be bimodal railcars of the BIR1 type, whose diesel operation makes it possible to operate on non-electrified routes. ER3 will replace X11, while BIR1 is planned to replace Y2. The first ER3 railcars were delivered to Sweden in March 2025 and the vehicle type is intended to be put into service in 2026. Before that, the new trains are tested to ensure that everything works as it should. The tests usually take place at night, when no other trains are running. They start at midnight, and continue until the early hours of the morning. In this video you can follow along to Örbyhus, where tests are being carried out with ER3 002 during the last week of October. The train is first towed from Gävle to Örbyhus station by Hector Rail 243 107. The train then runs under its own power during the tests, between the Örbyhus and Salsta interchanges. The approximately 21 km long stretch along the Ostkustbanan is long enough for the train to reach speeds of up to 200 km/h. This night it is the pantograph that is being tested, you can see that it is illuminated by a spotlight. We also managed to film a few other trains that passed by before the tests started: SJ Night train, Mälartåg and Trafikverket's Rc6. You can find these clips at the end of the video!
