The Goyt Valley: A journey through time

A recording of a Zoom presentation describing a brief history of the Goyt Valley created for the South West Peak Landscape Partnership in May 2021. It follows the Goyt from its source near the Cat & Fiddle Inn, north to Fernilee - a journey that was described as one of the loveliest in Derbyshire. The landscape completely changed following the construction of two large reservoirs - Fernilee in the mid 1930s, and Errwood to the south in the mid '60s. Today it's a tranquil valley criss-crossed by attractive walks. But in previous times it was a hive of industrial activity, including coal mining, stone quarrying and even a gunpowder mill.
