As Aakash Chaudhary of Aakash Institute explains, many edtech companies, like BYJU’S, lacked a fundamental understanding of academic pedagogy—the art of teaching. They failed to recognize that a successful education business is a service-plus-product model where a company’s job begins after a course is sold. This lack of personalized, hands-on student support led to a poor after-service experience, undermining the very purpose of education. Additionally, the fast-paced nature of venture capital, which demands quick returns, was often a mismatch for the education sector, where building trust and showing outcomes can take years. Now, a new wave, Edtech 2.0, is emerging, led by founders who have learned from these past mistakes. This new approach prioritizes personalized, outcome-driven learning. This replicates the personal connection of an in-person tutor. Finally, Sparkl is using AI as a co-pilot for teachers, not just for content creation. The AI analyzes student engagement, identifies where they struggle, and provides teachers with insights to make their lessons more effective. This powerful AI tutor, which has access to Sparkl’s proprietary data, is especially valuable in regions where quality teachers are scarce.
