Splitting Madrone Firewood The Best Firewood Arbutus w Home Made Firewood Splitter

Splitting Madrone Firewood, also called Madrona, or Arbutus, with my homemade hydraulic firewood splitter. Some say Madrone Firewood is the best firewood there is. It is a dense hardwood that burns long and hot. It produces a great heat but with little ash. It can also be one of the less messy types of firewood. Madrone splits east when fresh cut green. It can be split easily by hand with a splitting maul if it is straight grained. If it is twisted or otherwise not straight grained, it can be tough, but it is not stringy. If the rounds dry, it then becomes tough to split by hand. But with a log splitter, it will split easily, the pieces just pop open. In this video I also talk a little bit about the Madrone tree. I also discussed the idea of cutting some Madrone lumber on my Woodmizer LT15 sawmill.
