Madhya Pradesh Police Set Up 'Dacoit Museum' In Chambal

The Chambal River flows from southeastern Rajasthan, southwestern Uttar Pradesh and northern Madhya Pradesh. The area near the river is famous for dacoits. For the first time in India, the artefacts belonging to dreaded and popular dacoits will be showcased in a museum in Madhya Pradesh's Bhind. The museum will put on display the gun used by bandit-turned-MP Phoolan Devi, Nirbhay Gujjar's tape recorder and many more things. It is reported that the police have been donating money for the museum that will come up next month. Manoj Kumar Singh, Bhind Superintendent of Police said, "Till now the dacoits of Chambal belt have been glorified. Now, it is the turn of the victims and policemen who fought the menace to be brought into limelight.” Mr. Singh also said that the idea of this museum is not to admire these oppressors but to highlight the sacrifices made by the police to prevent them. The museum will showcase 2000 digitised records and other archives gathered over the past five decades related to the crimes such as murder, kidnapping and loot. The museum will have photographs of 28 martyrs and 30 brave people who fought the dacoits.
