We went into painting the bus thinking that we'd be done in about a week...yeah right haha little did we know 1.5 months of long days and nights is what it would actually take. Well worth the hard work and all that we learned. We are so thankful for everyone who helped us along the way- Doug, Cindy, Bob, Mary, Anthony, Garrick, and Justin. THANK YOU! Tips for painting a bus: there are so many opinions and pieces of advice out there, and we are not pros by any means, but this is what we took away from it. Definitely do your research and do what you feel is best for your build. * You don't have to sand it down to the metal like we did...we definitely over did it. Just sand it normally and it'll be great. Sanding to the metal can make it rust quickly if you don't paint it right away...this happened to us, can't find the content for that but it happened after 1-2 days of being exposed to the air/humidity. We had to lightly re-sand those parts. We used Rustolium oil based satin paint for the white part, oil based black matte spray on Rustolium paint for the detailing, and Behr oil based paint for the aqua and gray lines. We learned our friends used industrial paint and if we ever did it again, we would go with industrial paint for how much more durable it is with rocks hitting it when we drive. After sanding, wiping it clean with paint thinner will do a great job and getting it ready for primer. Allow for TIMEEEE. Make sure the airflow on your spray gun is adjusted correctly so there's a proper airflow to paint ratio. You can buy a cheap and great working air sprayer at Harbor Freight, we had to use it for some of it and it worked great. Pour paint thinner into the paint for spraying it on so that it's not too thick, check the recommendations for the sprayer and paint you are using. If you have any question, write them in the comments!
