In today's installment I will unbox and review the ICY DOCK Tough Armor MB994SK 4x2.5" HDD SAS SATA Rack which can be found on Amazon for $75. Right off the bat let me just say that due to the hefty price tag I feel that this enclosure is targeted more towards the enterprise market. Though, that does not mean that it cannot be considered a good consumer product. First impressions were very good. The drive cage is incredibly rugged. The entire enclosure is composed of very high grade steel allowing absolutely no give when I attempted to bend it with my hands. There is a video where someone runs this cage over with a car and after handling it in person I firmly believe that it would survive such an incident. Also included in the package were drive screws, screws for the installation of the cage into the PC, and keys for the caddy locks. Removing and inserting the drive caddys from the cage was very easy. Just release the arm and pull the bay out. Installing a drive into the caddy is also simple. Just line up the screw-holes and insert the screws. While testing the drive using my desktop I found that there was no deviation between the drive speeds while connected directly to my PCs SATA ports and the speeds while it was inside the drive cage. While it was in operation I did find that the internal fans were just a bit loud, it was nothing too bad but it could become annoying after awhile. Installing the drive cage into a desktop took only a few minutes and it fit exactly as the previously installed DVD drive did. I would definitely consider this a great product but I do still believe that it is a tad bit expensive for the every day consumer. ICY dock makes cheaper versions of this enclosure (the non tough armor series) which I will link below in the description.
