Back in 2018 when the Mazda CX-8 first arrived in Australia there were just three versions of the all-new large SUV – essentially a stretched CX-5 with third-row seating. But there are now 11 variants in the updated 2021 Mazda CX-8 model range, which is headlined by the Asaki LE. Its distinguishing features are two captain’s chairs in the middle row, replacing the three-seat bench in every other model. On top of that the Asaki LE throws in just about every comfort and safety item in the CX-8’s locker. It’s powered by Mazda’s familiar 2.2-litre turbo-diesel engine working through a six-speed auto and all-wheel drive.
