Jean-Baptiste MOHR (1823-1891) Quatuor pour saxophones (1861) This composition, written for saxophone quartet, was performed live and accompanies the documentary, "Music of the Gilded Age at Boscobel." Mohr studied composition with a Neapolitan opera composer who had settled in Paris and was a close friend of Rossini's. Mohr was appointed horn soloist with the Paris Opera, and later teacher of French horn at the Paris Conservatoire. This piece has been described as an homage to Rossini, and has drawn direct comparisons to Cinderella, Semiramide, The Italian Girl in Algiers, and The Barber of Seville. I have completed two documentaries and am currently working with my filmmaker to edit the third. I have funded them out of pocket so far, but have three performances scheduled at Montgomery Place in May 2019, and am working on dates for Olana, Mills Mansion, and other historic estates. I'd love to film each event and make a similar documentary, but definitely don't have enough money to fund all of them. With your support I can continue this project! This is part of my 2018-2019 sabbatical from Dutchess Community College and is called, “Music of the Gilded Age in the Hudson Valley.” The project includes research and the creation of partnerships with historic estates to perform site-specific programs; the documentaries of each program are being created to share the stories and beauty of this time and place.
