With unrivalled ocean views and the highest quality of design and finishes, this landmark development on Newcastle Beach has redefined apartment living on NSW's Mid North Coast. Designed by Mirvac Design and Tzannes Associates, the East and North Elevations of the top 7 levels are dominated by AGP Fineline Series operable glass louvres. The louvre mullions are bolted to the front of the floor slabs, and run continuously up the facade. The height of the lower floors is 2900mm, with the Penthouse apartment enjoying a height of 4400mm. On the front of each mullion a special aluminium T section was made to meet council requirements by cutting out possible reflections off the glass. Due to the high winds experienced on this exposed location, the spans of the 12mm clear toughened louvre blades was restricted to 1300mm. The louvres can easily be opened and closed by the apartment users by a series of push buttons located nearby. Built into the system, without being obtrusive, is fixed glass balustrade panels and a linished stainless steel handrail fixed off the back of the mullions, to comply with requirements of AS1288:2006. The Royal Newcastle development is a perfect example of the custom nature of AGP's Fineline louvre system, with the design for the louvres on two of the buildings being very different. For Building 1, the architects wanted the mullions fixed in between the slab levels, whereas for Building 3 the mullions are running past the concrete slabs. The installation for this system was undertaken by three teams of AGP tradesmen. This first team undertook the site setout and fixed the brackets to the front of the slabs, before installing all the louvre mullions via a block and tackle system. After other works were completed, the second team returned to install the glass louvres, before a third team installed the louvre control boxes and commissioned the system.
