David Cronenberg's first significant mainstream hit outside of Canada, Scanners was a nightmare to shoot and is one of the director's least favorite movies to remember. However, it has remained a cult classic for decades, spawning sequels, spin-offs, and endless speculation about remakes, not to mention a widely circulated gif of an exploding head. If you're looking for a "review" in the traditional sense, then let me just say I like this movie. This video, however, is a "review" in the literal sense (using the Miriam-Webster definition "a retrospective view or survey"), in that I'm going over the history of the film and its place in sci-fi cinema history.
