Eva König receives FWF grant: “We aim at potentiating natural killer cells to fight cancer.”

Congratulations to Eva König, PhD, PI of the Tumor Immunoediting Group at St. Anna Children's Cancer Research Institute (CCRI), who was awarded a Stand Alone Grant from the Austrian Science Fund FWF. In the funded project, Eva König and her team (Hayeon Baik, PhD, Michelle Buri, MSc, Faith Hall Herbold, PhD, Susanne Stofner, BSc) aim to determine mechanisms that inhibit the function of natural killer cells. “We want to find novel ways to improve the functionality of these cells in order to fight against cancer more efficiently”, the scientist explains. In parallel, Eva König receives a grant from the Austrian „Fellinger Krebsforschung“. This additional funding synergizes with the FWF grant by putting together a few more pieces of the puzzle on the interplay between immune cells and cancer cells.
