James Brown, owner of Oxford based Hurricane Heritage, doing his first public aerobatic display in Noorduyn AT-16 Harvard IIB FE511/G-CIUW, during the Shuttleworth Season Premiere Airshow at Old Warden, on 2nd May 2021. Hurricane Heritage purchased Harvard FE511 towards the end of 2015 as a training aircraft for their Hurricane pilots. The Harvard was a designated training plane for WWII pilots and continued to be widely used for military training until the mid 1970s. It is still used by the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight for training of their pilots. This Harvard was built in December 1942 as a Mk IIb by Noorduyn Aviation in Montreal, Quebec. Originally allocated US serial 42-708, she was instead delivered to the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) on October 13th 1942 and served with 6 Service Flying Training School at Dunnville, Ontario, training Royal Air Force (RAF) and RCAF crew throughout the war. She was struck off charge in December 1946 and moved to the Swedish Air Force as Fv16128 in 1947. She was used as an instructional airframe for many years, initially based at Stockholm-Bromma Airport, before moving to Stockholm-Arlanda Airport from 1975-1987. In 1987 she was sold to a private collection in Sweden, where she was restored to airworthy condition, civil registered SE-BII and painted in a pseudo US military scheme with invasion stripes. The colours now worn by the aircraft are representative of a Harvard provided to the Royal Air Force as part of the wartime lend lease agreement with USA. You can fly in this Harvard for air experience flights from White Waltham Airfield near Maidenhead, UK, with an additional option to fly alongside Hurricane Heritage's Hawker Hurricane R4118.
