Instead of a new beginning, did the launch of Goodness Gracious Me represent a high-point in British Asian representation on TV? We ponder whether, and how, British Asian portrayal can find new direction following what many would see as the continued fallout from 9/11 and Rotherham, with continued ill-considered, even biased, coverage sparking vitriolic responses within the media and online. With the increase in specialised platforms, how can mainstream broadcasters attract young audiences with fuller and fairer representations of British Asian culture in all its diversity? A panel of Asian filmmakers, presenters and journalists discuss these questions and more. Chaired by Nikki Bedi with Sathnam Sanghera, Mobeen Azhar, Mehreen Baig and Anita Rani. Filmed by Sheffield Hallam University students and edited by Matthew Sturdy (Cosmic Joke). Visit our website: https://sheffdocfest.com/
