Eric Moves D9537 takes power 21st June 2014

The D9537 loco group presents, Eric moves under its own power for the first time in 20 odd years at Buckley Wells shed on the East Lancs Railway on Saturday evening 21st June 2014, after 14 months of feverish work D9537 was started for the first time only 2 weeks previously and this was soon followed by the locos first moves, on Saturday 21st, the guys spent most of the day fettling the reversing mechanism on the final drive unit, only managing to get it functioning by the evening, the loco was then started up and an attempt at movement made, but nothing happened? attention then turned to the control valve on top of the Voith Hydraulic transmission, after some diagnostics the throttle valve was found to be jammed up with rust, this was cleaned out and the control piston lubricated, once that was found to be working and with a few more minor tweeks the Engine loaded up and the brakes were released and D9537 slowly moved backwards and forwards number of yards before being switched off again, much to the relief of those present, but there is still much tinker time to do before the Class 14s@50 event but this was a monumental achievement and we are still on course to debut D9537 at the event.
