Wide open skipjack tuna bite on the BD outdoors sponsored 1.5 day charter trip. Launched from Fisherman's Landing on the Tomahawk Fishing all day Sept 23rd. Fishing within 40 miles away from San Diego ,Captain Bryce and the crew of the Tomahawk spotted multiple bird piles, drifting kelp, and breezers throughout the day. Most of the stops were found with aggressive schools of skipjack. Anything thing you threw at them they bit.Earlier in the day we did find a school of "willing" yellowfin tuna. the grades were in the football to 20 pound ranges. The Key for the yellowfin bite was the 20 lb fluorocarbon leader line with a size 2 or size 4 hooks , either J or circle. All yellowfin bites that I asked around were all on lively and butt hooked baits. While all the other nose hooked baits were getting bit with the skipjacks.Myself and couple other anglers did hook up on yellowfin tuna on couple stops, using colt snipers ( 42 GRAM) . It appeared they wanted nothing more than the 42 gram. the Blue pink and mackerel colors (that I know of) got bit. Since this was a BD sponsored trip, bloodydecks hooked up everyone with a hat and a shirt, and raffle prizes that consisted of Costa Glasses, AFTCO gear, Nomad and yozuri Lures, Seaguar Yozuri and Saiko flourocarbon leader line. At the end, we ended with limits of Skipjack, 30+ yellowfin tuna , and 1 yellowtail. Personally, I want to say a big thanks to everyone that attended the BD trip. Everyone was working as a team and gave out great vibes which I believe makes for a better fish count. I would love to fish with all yall again.
