World Music and Wordbeat Music: World music is a broad, often debated marketing term for traditional, folk, and fusion music from non-English-speaking, non-Western cultures while Worldbeat is a music genre that blends traditional, folk, or indigenous music from around the globe with contemporary Western pop, rock, or dance rhythms Who is B.R. Olórin? B.R. Olórin is an emerging worldbeat musician whose sound bridges the rich depth of core African folk with the fluidity of Western pop. Known for his deep philosophical songwriting, he primarily performs in Yoruba, weaving stories that transcend language and culture. His evocative, cinematic, and emotionally resonant music has become a valuable resource for filmmakers seeking authentic African storytelling through sound. Notably, four songs from his debut project, Lágìjù (“In the Wilderness”), were featured in the 2025 cinema film, ÈWÒ, underscoring his growing influence in the creative industry. Beyond artistry, B.R. Olórin studied Music Business under the Creative Business Academy for Africa programme in 2024. Currently, he is working on his sophomore project, Lágìjù II, a follow-up to his debut EP, promising to expand his sonic narrative of hope. Check out “Jagun”, an evocative Afrosoul song.
