Originally uploaded May 13, 2018. UPDATE: PDF of my arrangement on my website: https://www.newukenewyork.com/p/chord... Day 41/100: “For Emily, Wherever I May Find Her” (1966), written by Paul Simon and recorded by Simon and Garfunkel. Take 21. Ugh. I REALLY want to do this song justice. I love it so. I needed two picking patterns in this, depending on the chord I was playing. I had been playing it in C, but it’s too high for me in that key to sing it quietly, so I dropped it into A today. But to play it in A I found I needed to rearrange the picking patterns again. So it’s like new to me and that made it really hard to get a clean take - not even figuring in the E chords I now need to play. I’m going to keep refining this arrangement and my playing of it. Quick story: I enjoyed babysitting the daughter of my youth group leader (Hi, Jim!) and his wife (hi, T!) in the late 1980s and early 90s, and after the first job I did for them, Jim gave me a copy of the 1972 vinyl Simon and Garfunkel Greatest Hits album as part of my payment. I still have it and I am surprised I haven’t worn the grooves flat with the number of times I’ve listened to it over the years. Jim also played the guitar, sang duets with me, and introduced me to Cat Stevens, which makes him a key figure in a very special pivot point in my musical history. I’ll always be grateful to have known him for many reasons, but this is one.
