Visiting the cave of Shoichi Yokoi: The Japanese soldier who hide 28 years in the jungles of Guam!

Ever heard of Shoichi Yokoi? The Japanese soldier Yokoi spent 28 years of hiding in the jungles of Guam - AFTER World War two had ended and Japan had lost the war. On my visit to Guam, I had the privilege to see the place where he was hiding and the simple cave that was his home, for almost three decades. In 1944, after three years of Japanese occupation, U.S. forces retook Guam. It was at this time that Yokoi went into hiding instead of surrendering to the Americans. In the jungles of Guam, he made survival tools, built a cave and for the next three decades waited for the return of the Japanese and his next orders. After he was discovered by local farmers in 1972, he was finally sent home to Japan, where he was hailed as a national hero!
