The Windows & Composite Materials workshop was presented at Come Back to the Future, Rhode Island's 35th Historic Preservation Conference, on Wednesday, April 21, 2021. D1 - Windows and Composite Materials Energy efficiency, lead paint, and government incentives for home energy improvements are among the variety of reasons why owners replace original wood windows in their historic homes. With new and improved technologies and manufacturing processes that make new windows more affordable and/or efficient, it is a big challenge for HDCs to fight to save original windows. This session looks at the anatomy of an old window—and what makes an acceptable replacement for it—when restoration is not an option.
