Build a primitive wood bow from a Home Depot board - Part 4

In part 4 of our series on how to build a primitive wood bow from a cheap home depot maple board we'll take steps to increase the speed and efficiency of our board bow. This bow design is very safe, but isn't the most efficient design for a primitive wood bow. In this video I shorten the bow to 68 inches and shoot it through the chronograph to measure arrow speed. Then I reduce the mass in the bows tips to increase the bow's efficiency. As a comparison I shoot my osage orange hunting bow, a 65 inch recurve drawing 50lbs at 29 inches, through the chronograph. We discuss bow design, as well as other factors affecting the efficiency of traditional and primitive archery bows. This would make a great bushcraft survival bow and arrow and could also be made from red oak or hickory. If made from hickory, you could leave the bow unbacked for a self bow.
