Corned beef and cabbage for Saint Patrick's Day: March 17, 2020. This corned beef was prepared two weeks ago from scratch, and on Sunday, March 15 it was slow-cooked with vegetables all day in a cast iron dutch oven. The result is seen here: a huge pile of corned beef and cabbage, with a taste far surpassing what you would get if you boiled it for several hours in a crock pot. However, this same method can be used with store-bought corned beef. Don't hesitate to use your own spices and braise it in beer, and you'll see how much of a delicacy slow-cooked corned beef can be. This corned beef was prepared in a vintage Birmingham Stove & Range cast iron dutch oven, and we take a close look at this piece of cast iron history here.
