Breath of the Wild plays much like other 3D Zelda games, but it is set in a continuous open-world environment. The world is not segmented like in Ocarina of Time or Twilight Princess. Once the player can safely leave the introductory area, the world opens up dramatically. Weapons and tools are handled differently from previous entries in the series. Weapons and shields wear out over time, so you have to be on the lookout for replacements. Unfortunately, they cannot be repaired. This is also the first Zelda game with significant voice acting. Perhaps as a consequence, you can no longer choose a different name for the protagonist, Link. After viewing the title screens, we start a new game (time 3:09). An opening scene plays. Hearing a voice in his head, Link wakes up in some kind of stasis chamber. We gain control of Link in the Shrine of Resurrection (time 5:04). He examines the pedestal (time 5:49). He acquires the Sheikah Slate, the latest tablet by Hyrule Cellular. The door opens. In the next room, he finds Well-Worn Trousers (time 6:50) and an Old Shirt (time 7:05). They are pretty weak, but they're better than nothing. Link examines the next pedestal (time 7:24). When he holds the Sheikah Slate up to it, the door opens. A brief scene takes place. Link goes outside (time 8:38). A scene gives us a lovely panorama of Hyrule. Also, someone seems to be watching. We gain control of Link on the Great Plateau (time 9:20). He begins exploring outside the Shrine of Resurrection. There are resources to find everywhere. Tree Branches can be used as basic weapons. Hylian Shrooms and Apples can be eaten raw or cooked to make better food. Down the path, he meets an Old Man sitting by a fire (time 11:28). The Old Man provides information about the Great Plateau. Link can grab a Baked Apple and a Torch near him. At an unused campsite farther down the path, Link hears the voice in his head again (time 14:08). The main quest "Follow the Sheikah Slate" begins. Link must head towards a point to the northeast. Nearby, there is a Woodcutter's Axe. It can be used as a weapon, but it is better used to cut down trees. Some trees contain Apples. A little to the east, a rocky outcropping overlooks the pond (time 15:26). Link dives into the ring. A Korok gives him Korok Seed #001. When he meets Hestu, Link will be able to trade these in to increase his available slots for weapons, shields, or bows. On top of an island in the pond, Link can pull a Rusty Broadsword from a stone (time 16:23). However, this is no Excalibur. It has terrible durability. Link continues east to the grounds of the Temple of Time. There are ruined Guardians all around the temple. At many of them, he can find Ancient materials. There are also hostile Bokoblins roaming around. When defeated, many drop Boko Clubs and Bokoblin materials. A chest in the lower part of the ruins contains a pair of Hylian Trousers (time 18:27). Certainly better than the threadbare pants Link found in the Shrine of Resurrection. Link continues east. There are some Bokoblins near the target area. They have some useful equipment and resources. The one directly in front of the target holds a Traveler's Sword and a Boko Shield and maybe some Arrows. The ones on the hill southwest of the target have Boko Bows and Arrows. At the target, Link finds a pedestal (time 23:07). When he puts the Sheikah Slate in, a scene takes place. The structure he is in is revealed as a tower. This tower and others throughout Hyrule rise. Link is at the Great Plateau Tower. The Sheikah Slate downloads a map of the Great Plateau region. Then, as the voice directs him to look north, Link gets a sight of the enemy threatening Hyrule. We gain control of Link at the top of the Great Plateau Tower (time 26:15). "Follow the Sheikah Slate" complete! The tower affords a fantastic view of Hyrule. Take care returning to the ground. After Link returns to the ground, he meets the Old Man, who has an interesting toy (time 27:24). The Old Man speaks of Calamity Ganon. He also speaks of the sheer cliffs around the Great Plateau. After speaking of the danger to Hyrule, he offers to give Link the Paraglider, but not for free. The main quest "The Isolated Plateau" begins. We regain control of Link (time 29:42). The Old Man guides Link up a hill nearby. The description is continued in the comments.
