After 20 years in a cage, moon bear Dawn steps outside for the first time

She's waited over 20 years for her day in the sun but last week Dawn, the moon bear Animals Asia rescued from a bile farm earlier this year, finally got her wish. Dawn was one of the most broken bears we'd ever met. Most bears we rescue are traumatised, but Dawn seemed particularly affected by her experience. It took our bear care team months of careful, consistent work to get her to trust us, and to believe that she was safe. Every step of her rehabilitation so far has been a huge step for her. From the first time she voluntarily accepted food from us, to the moment she stepped outside into the fresh air, she has bravely moved forward despite the trauma she's experienced. She has learned to trust us, to trust that life can be different, and that she will never again be confined to a tiny cage by herself.
