In this opening sermon of a short series, we explore the vital topic of the Bible's inspiration and authority. Today, the 66 books of the Bible (39 Old Testament, 27 New Testament) serve as the foundational revelation of God for our faith and practice. With Jesus ascended and no longer physically present, the Scriptures are now our supreme authority, over and above tradition, leaders, society, and our feelings. Our church's statement of belief affirms that we believe in, "the divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are the written Word of God—fully trustworthy in all matters." Today, confidence in the Bible is eroding due to challenges like science, morality debates, academia, competing holy books and atheism. Sadly, even in churches, some Christians may lack conviction about the truth and accuracy of the Bible. This series builds conviction in the full inspiration of Scripture, focusing on the New Testament: Its human side (eyewitnesses, careful research like Luke's in Luke 1:1-4) and divine side (God-breathed, carried along by the Holy Spirit per 2 Peter 1:16-21 and 2 Timothy 3:14-17).
