We are predominantly trout fishers but every now again we try to indulge ourselves in sea fishing, mainly from the shore. Boat fishing is something we had been planning for a while but due to various reasons our last few trips had been cancelled. So this year the boat trip was on our priority list. We booked a charter boat from Portpatrick, an area we frequently visit for shore fishing. Unfortunately, we could only secure an evening booking for 4 hours. We headed out early afternoon on a long drive to this beautiful little village portpartick in southwest of Scotland. When we arrived our boat skipper Steve had already organised the boat and tackle and welcomed us all on his boat Lucky Dip 2. We agreed with Steve to first take us to catch a few mackerel before moving to marks where there would be better chance of some pollack. Our only concern was the slack water at low tide when fishing could be a bit slow. On the first drift we managed to land couple of mackerel and a pollack, with our younger members of the group getting amongst fish. We tried another few drifts in various locations and caught a few more fish. However, overall the fishing as predicted was on the slow side due to slack water at low tide. Steve did his best to ensure we caught a few fish despite the unfavorable conditions. In total we landed 29 fish that included some mackerel, pollack and one cod.
