Its almost impossible to imagine the energy and excitement felt by everyone involved. Soul boys and girls would travel far and wide to see the Mafia and never be disappointed, at places like The Royalty/ Southgate, Goldmine/ Canvey Island, Rio/Didcot, Americas/ Southall, Lacy Lady/ Ilford, Frenchies / Camberley, Flicks/ Dartford, add the regular all dayers, Purley, Brighton, Bournemouth, boat trips (Isle Of White) etc. In 1979 the Soul Weekender officially began with 3 days of dancing and excess at Caister courtesy of Adrian Webb's Showstopper promotions, from here on in the soul train did not stop with weekenders at Prestatyn, Camber, Bognor and Southport, these became annual pilgrimage sites for soul boys and soul girls looking for a good time. This gem was originally filmed at "Caister" back in 1996, as a soul boy myself it was such a pleasure to chat to some of the "Mafia" that I had followed in my youth. After a visit to NYC's Paradise Garage, and getting into £20,000 worth of debt, his orange sound system was the biggest and the best, we all appreciated it Steve! What can I say about Chris Brown, he was the other end of the scale to Hilly but always spun the best jazzy tunes, ending every set with "My Baby Don't Care by Nina Simone.
