What is Extra Care Housing?

Extra Care Housing allows people to live independently in their own homes, with the added benefit of flexible, on-site care and support. But despite a wealth of positive reports, both from providers and people living in these schemes about the advantages it offers, the term 'Extra Care' and this type of provision remain poorly understood. As part of the Housing LIN's goal to share ideas and best practice, we have produced a series of videos titled 'Spotlight on Extra Care Housing', exploring some of the different aspects of this specialist model of housing with care. In this video, we spoke to professionals and residents of Extra Care Housing around the country about their experience of Extra Care, and the different ways in which it can improve wellbeing and quality of live for people as they get older.
