Grand Forks Flood Response and Recovery

This nomination recognizes the extraordinary response and recovery efforts of provincial staff involved in the 2018 flooding of Grand Forks and the surrounding Regional District. Historic flows of the Kettle and Granby River systems began on May 10, 2018, affecting the neighbourhoods of Johnson's Flats, South and North Ruckle, downtown Grand Forks and the industrial area. Over 400 homes and 100 businesses were severely damaged, resulting in catastrophic economic, social, infrastructure and environmental impacts to a community already struggling with significant socio-economic issues and an affordable housing shortage.
