And then the addresses all your data is stored into another block called pointer. These pointers know where the data is stored in the hard disk. So, basically quick format will only delete the pointers and leave the actual data intact. Therefore, after quick format, the data is recoverable. However, when you do full format, it deletes all the blocks, that is the blocks that the data is stored & the ones that store the location of the data that is pointers. It replaces data with 0. Hence, in normal format the data is not recoverable & it takes much longer time. Plus, normal format will go block by block & check each block's health while deleting the blocks. By the way, these blocks are called cells for SSD drives & sectors for HDD drives. WARNING: All your files are still stored in your hard drive even though it shows as if the drive is EMPTY! WARNING: Don't sell your laptop, hard drive, PC, etc., after just doing quick format! Your personal data can still be recovered! Resetting your PC is not enough for deleting your personal data! QUICK FORMAT: 251 - 104 = 147 GB of data is deleted in few seconds! It is because only the addresses (pointers) to the actual data is removed! Remove the checkmark to do a Full Format! NOTE: Pointers themselves are stored in blocks. 1 block can store 1000s of pointers. NOTE: You could reformat a drive with a normal (full) format after a quick format. BE AWARE: A normal format can take hours to complete!
