Universities deal with a lot of drop outs worldwide; they wonder how to build on study success and retention for their students. There seems to be a parallel between making a new employee successful and making a new student successful. Menno looks at this parallel in his TEDx talk. By looking into the student life cycle and the student onboarding phase specifically; universities are able to safe a lot of money and keep the students in. Student onboarding should go hand in hand with the introduction of compulsory, interactive, employability and academic skills modules as well as with the introduction of gamification throughout all the pre- and onboarding phases. This has been a success in the UK and The Netherlands for a few years now and Menno elaborates on these experiences. Menno commenced his study finance in Amsterdam back in 1997. On the first day he was confronted with a management simulation game and from that moment on he decided to put all his time and effort in changing education. Together with his simulation team buddy Patrick Bouwens, Menno started a long and intense journey of innovating higher education. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
