For our next instalment in the Meet the Poet series on 24th November at 8pm, we’re in discussion with Lila Matsumoto and Samantha Walton. Excavating the poetry of two supremely astute and considerate writers, this Meet the Poet weaves through discussions on the environment, the sonic experience of poetry, the life of objects, and a bit of apocalypse too. We delve into Lila’s most recent poetry collection Two Twin Pipes Sprout Water, a Poetry Book Society Winter 2021 Recommendation, which moves deftly between minute, seemingly ordinary portions of the world, made wholly extraordinary through generous examination. Lila also embraces the sonic experience of poetry and we are treated to some performances of her work with audio accompaniment. Sam’s poetry often considers how we as humans relate to the world around us, offering both hopeful and at times hopeless depictions of the planet in its current and future states. Reading from her pamphlet Bad Moon, and collection Self Heal, one of White Review’s Books of the Year of 2018, these are poems on healing, apocalypse, and the earth, that leave you beginning to renegotiate your place within the natural world. Tune in to this latest instalment of Meet the Poet, where we showcase the diverse and skilled work being produced by poets across the country.
